I thought it was about time I introduced myself properly. I’m Miranda, Founder and Buying Director here at Peter Christian. Most of my days are spent hunting down fabrics, meeting makers, and dreaming up pieces that we hope you’ll enjoy for years to come.

Every now and then I’ll drop you an email from the buying team. Nothing formal, just a quick note from behind the scenes here at PC. It might be a fabric swatch that stopped me in my tracks, or a clever maker we’ve just started working with. Really, it’s just me sharing those things I can’t keep to myself.

    SEASONS CHANGING

What a change to the weather! Plenty of rain (my poor tomatoes are sulking about it), and now you can just feel that little chill in the air that says autumn’s on its way. My husband Nick (affectionately known as Lord Trousers) and I managed a long weekend on the Yorkshire Moors. Bliss: miles of heather, endless skies, and that sort of bracing air that makes you come home rosy-cheeked and full of ideas. We even walked up the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, windswept and wonderful, the ruins standing proud (below) - and came back brimming with colour inspiration for future seasons.

    CLOSER TO HOME

For this very first edition, I thought it only right to start with garments made nearest to home. Pieces with proper roots in Britain.

Take socks, for instance. Spots, stripes, or a cheeky herringbone zig-zag. They’re made just 12 miles down the road in Sussex by our friends at Peper Harow. I love the thought of them peeking out from under winter trousers and giving you a grin every time you stretch a leg.

Then there are the Harris Tweed® jackets, now in the most mouth-watering shades: burdock and nettle green. Each one handwoven in the Outer Hebrides, plant-dyed, and made from virgin wool. This cloth is part of our heritage; tough as old boots, beautiful and warm.

And oh, the Fairisle crew neck sweaters! 100% wool, proudly made in England. We have to order them months ahead, but honestly, they vanish faster every season. If you fancy one, my advice is don’t hang about. They never stick around for long.

Right then, Amy (our Miniature Poodle) and I are off to gather up the last of the apples before the wind does the job for us. I’ve half a mind to turn them into a crumble tonight (with extra custard for Lord Trousers, of course). Here’s to the week ahead. May it start gently for you.

    With love,

    Miranda
